We all have goals and habits we want to achieve but our downfall is often a lack of discipline.  We get busy, overwhelmed and distracted with all of our responsibilities as a mom.  Then we beat ourselves up for not being successful which will lead to more failure because you have the mindset that you don’t have the discipline.

1. Forgive Yourself – Don’t dwell on your failures. No one is perfect.  Learn from it and move on.

2. Give Yourself Some Slack – Make small achievable goals.  We often overestimate what we can do which can set ourselves up to fail.  Focus on small baby steps to reach your goals.

3.  Focus on motivation – What will motivate you to achieve your goals?  What will sustain the motivation when you struggle? Find a strong motivator for doing something and write them down. Commit publicly.  When things get tough your motivator will help you get thru the those times.

As busy mom’s we have a never ending to do list.  Every time we cross off one item there are three more to replace them.  When was the last time you did doing nothing?  This isn’t a trick question.  If the only time that comes to mind was when you were deathly ill in bed, that doesn’t count.  Devote a part of your Memorial weekend to do nothing.  No email, no phone calls, no cleaning etc.  Taking some down time will rejuvenate you and refill your energy stores so you can tackle with more ease the challenges of being a busy mom.

A Poem Moms Can Relate to!

Posted by: Michi | Comments (0)

Here is a wonderful poem written by Rhonda Ryder that struck a chord with me.  Enjoy!!

You nurture
You love
You listen
You praise

You tickle
You cook
You work
You’re amazed

You wonder
You worry
You try not to nag

You holler
You apologize
Pack their lunch in a bag

Are you doing the right things?
Will their self esteem soar?
Are you working too much?
Should you be home more?

Your children are blessed
To have you by their side
They’re always connected
With their Inner Guide

Their GPS system is solid
Their senses in tune
Just nudge them to listen
They’ll fly to the moon

I’m seriously considering eating only whole food; fruits, vegetables, legumes

 For those who know me;  I haven’t lost my mind.  But over the course of several days last week I happen to meet several people who were Whole Food proponents who enlightened me to the negative  impact on our environment as carnivores. As well as other recent experiences that has changed/challenged my thinking about eating meat. Also, the scientific research on the positive health impacts  which are not widely known or publicized (that’s another topic about the politics of it all)  are tremendous!

Thoughts to Ponder:

If everyone went vegetarian just for one day, the U.S. would save:
● 100 billion gallons of water, enough to supply all the homes in New England for almost 4 months;
● 1.5 billion pounds of crops otherwise fed to livestock, enough to feed the state of New Mexico for more than a year;
● 70 million gallons of gas–enough to fuel all the cars of Canada and Mexico combined with plenty to spare;
● 3 million acres of land, an area more than twice the size of Delaware;
● 33 tons of antibiotics.
If everyone went vegetarian just for one day, the U.S. would prevent:
● Greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 1.2 million tons of CO2, as much as produced by all of France;
● 3 million tons of soil erosion and $70 million in resulting economic damages;
● 4.5 million tons of animal excrement;
● Almost 7 tons of ammonia emissions, a major air pollutant.

Do you have the guts to be beautiful?  By Jennifer Daniels, M.D. AND Mitra Ray, PHD  gtbb_cover

This is a phenomenal book  for women and men who want to look and feel their best without going to the surgeon or taking drugs.  The authors simply describes how you can  reverse wrinkles, blemishes, graying and baldness with better nutrition!  I know this sounds impossible but once you read it; I think you may change your mind or at the very least try one of their remedies.   To buy the book go here www.GUTS2BE.com   Also, check out Mitra Ray’s website http://www.fromheretolongevity.com/   and sign up for her newsletter.

The China Study by T. Colin Campbell PHD and Thomas M. Campbell II

This book show you how health and nutrition is linked  to heart disease, diabetes and cancer.  And how proper nutrition can reduce and even reverse those ailments. This book  will turn everything you know (or thought you knew) upside down.  You can get the book at Amazon http://tinyurl.com/r3kw95

 Here is a quote from Oprah Winfrey’s physician
“This is one of the most important books about nutrition ever written—reading it may save your life.”  —Dean Ornish, MD, Oprah Winfrey’s personal physician, author, Dr. Dean Ornish’s Program for Reversing Heart Disease and Love & Survival

Having One of Those Days?

Posted by: Michi | Comments (0)

You find out your daughter is labeled as the “bad child” in class.  You have a huge deadline dropped in your lap due that day just before you head out early for your son’s piano recital.  You walk in your door and you see that your dog has decorated the house with trash.  You’re ready to lose it…

How to get a grip and salvage your day:

Go to your room and beat up your pillow scream into it…let it all out. Then leave your room and everything that happened there.

The Power of Connectedness

Posted by: Michi | Comments (0)

This is a wonderful example of how music and the world of video can bring the world together!  This is a composite audio/video of the song Stand By Me whereby additional tracks were laid in by different singers and musicians from different places around the world.

Take five and a half minutes out of your day and be inspired!

When was the last time you took the time to rejuvenate yourself, to relax and decompress?  I know we seem to be in a frantic superwoman mode juggling two to three things at a time; but even superwoman needs to take some time for self-care.    Heck, the power cells can only last for so long before they drain completely.
As moms we focus on taking care of everyone else before ourselves, but we actually have it backwards.  When the stewardess on the airplane goes over the emergency rules, they always say “put on your oxygen mask first before your child’s”; if you’re passed out, how can you save your little ones?  This also applies to everyday life, how can we be a good mom, if we are constantly giving up our time and energy and never take the opportunity to refuel ourselves?

Even the most powerful battery will deplete its stores down to the point of nothing if it is never given the chance to restore its charge.

The most important concepts to embrace is: to schedule in time for yourself.  You need to decide whether it needs to happen once a week or more often.  It’s up to you to decide what you need to help you keep your sanity.

Here are some simple tips to get you back into superwoman condition.

Tip 1: Take a bubble bath with no interruptions.  Add the extra comforts and use a relaxing scent such as lavender or some bath oils.

Tip2: Read a fun entertaining book. This will give your mind a mini vacation to take the edge off of what’s going on around you.

Tip 3:  Get outdoors and enjoy nature.  Regardless if you live in the city or out in the country. Slow down and take in the moment of your surroundings.  Take deep methodical breaths.  Find something beautiful, and soak in it.

This week has been busier than usual.   I will be flying out on Friday  to meet my Diamond Mastermind business group and spend the weekend  learning and having fun in San Diego.  (I hope it will be warm and sunny.)  This means three days away from my family.  Plus this past week I’ve felt like I’ve been on a whirlwind ride of always in “go go mode”.

My sister offered to take my son on Saturday with her and the kids to some Easter activities and I thought awesome I can get some work done.  I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and stressed with so much more on my plate and preparing for my trip that this will help me catch up.  Now, I’m feeling guilty about my son spending the day with my sister and her family.  I know the sacrifices I’m making now  will allow me to have more flexibility and spend more time with my son and family.  I just need keep things in perspective and practice my deep breathing to relieve stress.

Here are few more things I do to make a stressful week more manageable:

1.  Don’t drop my normal  exercise routine I will need the additional energy it gives me.  Plus its an awesome stress reliever.

2. Don’t throw out healthy eating .  I will need the healthy nutrients to get me thru the day rather than the empty calories from junk food.

3. Refrain from mindless stress eating.  I will regret it later on and since it’s typically junk food or high calorie foods I’ll feel yucky and bloated later on.

Finding Yourself

What do you want to be, do, or have?

As moms we put our families first, then loved ones and friends. As a result we sometimes resent others and then we feel guilty about the resentment.  We don’t dare dream for a moment a life or even a day of calm, less stress, less responsibility, less lunches to make, less laundry, less bills and the list goes on and on.  Many of us at some point have resigned to a life of motherhood  that means sacrificing your wants and needs  for the sake of everyone else.  We are the givers and everyone else is the takers.

 When was the last time you received?

There probably were some missed opportunities to go out with the girls, an overlooked  date night with your husband or an hour of unexpected time without the kids and spouse but you decided to get the housework done, pay the bills or run another errand.  You probably thought I’ll get ahead of the game but the weird thing is that something else fills up your time so we often feel like we are always playing catch up.

When was the last time you asked for help?  We want to be the perfect mom, the superwoman that can do everything for everyone.  But at what cost?

As moms we are so busy doing what we think we have to do that we never get around to doing what we really want to do.

I challenge you to do something you truly want to do TODAY not what you should do.  A happier mom means a happier family!

The best day of your life is TODAY.  Life is all about choices, you can choose to move Forward or Stay In Place.

Here is a wonderful quote from my favorite  soothsayer:

 “You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own and you know what you know
And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.”

I know the mornings can be quite harried as you try to get the little ones’ dressed, fed and out the door.  They don’t always cooperate, or some mishap happens.  This morning my son bumped his head on his head board.  Now, this wasn’t really a big deal he’s had much worse tangles with falling down stairs and running into corners of walls.  But this morning he had to have his frozen Nemo ice pack and only mommy could get it and hold it.  So that meant we rushed out the door running late and I went without eating breakfast.  Thankfully, I’ve come  up with a great solution for not hitting the vending machine or fast food drive in by doing a little planning ahead.

I boil 6 eggs or so  then I peel them and put two eggs in individual containers.  So I have eggs for three days. Then I make sure I have some fresh fruit on hand.  If I don’t have any fresh fruit I grab a can of mandarins or other canned  fruit as a backup.  So I start off my day with eating one whole egg and the egg white of the other (my dog eats the egg yolks, it’s good for his coat) and some fruit.  This is a great breakfast with protein, some fat and fiber plus great vitamins and minerals from the fruit.  This saves me from eating extra calories at lunch if I altogether skip my breakfast or snacking on something that I would regret later.

Also, eggs are not as bad as the media and doctors once touted them to be.  Eating them in moderation is fine unless you have cholesterol then I would recommend following your doctors dietary suggestions.  They are a great inexpensive source of protein.
